A LAND OF WONDERS

“An enchanting place where vines grow alongside copses & orchards and which the Romans named Plain Point "The summit". Perched atop a hill overlooking the Fronsac plateaux in the Bordeaux region, Château Plain Point produces outsanding wines”

Gravity-flow Winery

The 2023 vintage marks a new era for Château Plain Point with the first wine crafted in a bespoke winery designed by architect Olivier Chadebost.

The vineyard, rich in Fronsadais molasse, asteriated limestone, and blue clay, now benefits from parcel-specific vinification with 60 concrete tanks, 13 wooden, and 14 stainless steel. This diversity preserves the unique complexity of each grape/terroir pair.

Built into a hillside with a 15-meter drop, the winery uses gravity to optimize winemaking, preserving the wines' organoleptic characteristics.

Three semi-buried facades utilize the natural soil coolness of 15°C, ideal for aging.

The historical Château

Centuries ago, in 1480, Château Plain Point already stood majestically over its valley. Its strategic location, known even earlier, was the pride of the De Marbun family, a line of parliamentarians.

In the 16th century, the first wine sales established the estate's long viticultural tradition.

In the 17th century, a fire orchestrated by the tyrant D'Harsilmont devastated the harvest, but the castle was saved from the flames.

The French Revolution brought turmoil: the owner, De Gombaut, was executed, and the estate was auctioned off to a farmer who let it deteriorate.

The 19th century saw a renaissance under Joseph Chaperon, a prominent Libourne wine merchant. He purchased, restored, and expanded the estate.

Château Plain Point wines shone on the tables of prestigious restaurants and even at the Élysée Palace.

The Tower

Perched on a hill, the tower of Château Plain Point stands as a silent witness to centuries past.

Today, it offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the estate.

The Draft Horses

They oversee part of our vineyard, particularly nurturing our young vines until their third year and the parcels requiring delicate attention.

Their meticulous care preserves our soils and encourages deep root growth.

Agro-Pastoralism

Each year from October to April, we welcome 250 sheep.

These guardians of our vines graze on tender grass and enrich our soils with nitrogen, a valuable ally for our vines.

The sound of their bells replaces the noise of tractors, reducing our environmental footprint.

The Aromas Trail

A picturesque trail winding through the heart of the vineyards and forest offers visitors a unique sensory and educational experience.

Walking this path, they refine their sense of smell by discovering the subtle aromas of wine through the delicate scents of flowers and plants lining the trail.

This playful activity in nature invites sensory awakening while admiring the beauty of the landscapes and incredible views of the château.

The Plain Point Farm

A joyful menagerie of animals has been welcomed to delight children (and adults!).

Strolling through the park, one can encounter majestic Highland cows with their impressive horns and shaggy fur.

The world's smallest sheep, the Ouessant, charm with their joyful bleats and soft wool.

The splendid peacocks, true stars of the park, spread their colorful feathers and are always ready for a photo.

The Pond

This delicate pond, nestled in the heart of the estate, offers a peaceful haven in nature.

Surrounded by trails, it is perfect for a leisurely stroll or a rustic picnic.

The gentle murmur of the water blends with birdsong, while the soothing shade of ancient trees creates an ideal setting for relaxation.

The Bees

Responsible for 80% of pollination on Earth, bees play a crucial role in maintaining biodiversity in the vineyard.

Hives have been installed at the entrance of the estate, and nectar-rich flowers are sown annually, delighting honey lovers as well.

The Château Park

The park of Château Plain Point is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the outdoors. With its breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes, it invites contemplation and rest.

Picnic tables are available for enjoying a meal al fresco while admiring the panorama. The century-old trees provide pleasant shade, adding a majestic touch to the setting.

For playful moments, a pétanque court allows for family or friendly games in a convivial atmosphere.

Vineyard Walk

Château Plain Point thrives in an exceptional natural setting.

Educational trails, suitable for walking or cycling, range from 1.5 to 10 km, allowing visitors to explore the site while learning about the vineyard, terroir, and nature.

Our Vineyard

Château Plain Point stands out for its rolling landscapes, oceanic climate, and its position at the confluence of two major rivers, creating an ideal environment for vines.

The terroir is characterized by three distinct soil types:

  1. Blue Clays: With incredible density and high Cation Exchange Capacity, they nourish the vines with essential nutrients. In wet periods, they retain water like sponges, gradually releasing it during dry months to hydrate the vines.
  2. Asteriated Limestone: Rich in marine fossils, this soil ensures excellent drainage and promotes the necessary hydric stress for the vine. It allows roots to penetrate deeply, bringing an aromatic complexity and acidity that adds freshness to the wines.
  3. Fronsadais Molasse: Combining clay and limestone, it creates balanced soils perfect for Merlot and Cabernet Franc. The resulting wines are round, refined, and fruity.

The alchemy of these reliefs and the mosaic of soils give the wines of the estate a unique soul and great finesse.

Nature

For over a decade, Château Plain Point has been committed to reducing its environmental impact by adopting sustainable viticultural practices.

Chemicals such as herbicides and insecticides have been completely eliminated in favor of preventive methods, such as manual soil work, debudding, targeted leaf removal, and sexual confusion.

Additionally, the estate encompasses over 20 hectares of hedges, woods, pine groves, and ponds, creating a haven for wildlife and flora.
