“ The alchemy between a hilly topography, a patchwork of soils, an oceanic climate and the estate’s location at the confluence of two large rivers are what makes Château Plain Point wines so unique„
The emblematic blue clay of Château Plain Point symbolizes its exceptional terroirs. It nourishes the vines by providing them with a multitude of nutrients. During dry months, these clays turn into veritable water reservoirs, allowing the vines to draw the necessary moisture for their development.
The asteriated limestone, rich in marine fossils, offers optimal drainage and promotes beneficial water stress for the vines. Its unique texture allows the roots to penetrate deeply, offering remarkable aromatic complexity to the wines.
The Fronsac Molasse, on the other hand, provides balanced soils, combining clay with the freshness of limestone rocks. These soils are perfect for Merlot and Cabernet Franc, offering round, fine wines with remarkable fruity freshness.
Each expression of this unique terroir embodies the signature of Château Plain Point wines: fruity, complex, and elegant wines with a strong aging potential.
The grape varieties at Plain Point are carefully selected to achieve perfect harmony between the characteristics of the terroir and the specificities of each grape variety.
Its soft and round profile brings plenty of color, aromas of fleshy red fruits, and grilled notes after a few years. It reveals its full potential on our clay soils.
It is the perfect companion to Merlot. It brings freshness and complexity with notes of raspberry and violet. Its small berries yield wines rich in polyphenols that offer good aging potential and a lot of finesse.
It provides structure and vigorous tannins. Colorful and highly aromatic, it brings aromas of black fruits, blackcurrant, licorice, and mint.
It enriches the aromatic palette with spicy notes.
Highly expressive, it brings notes of citrus zest, white peach, and passion fruit even in the ripest vintages. These fruity notes are sometimes enhanced by fresher nuances of broom and blackcurrant bud.
It complements Sauvignon Blanc wonderfully by providing roundness, aromas of hazelnuts, fresh fruits, and brioche.
At Château Plain Point, our environmental commitment is at the heart of our approach. We consider nature as a precious treasure that we have a duty to protect and share.
For over a decade, Château Plain Point has been committed to reducing its environmental footprint by adopting sustainable viticultural practices. The use of chemicals such as herbicides and insecticides has been abandoned in favor of preventive methods such as manual soil work, specific vineyard management, and the implementation of environmentally friendly methods such as sexual confusion to control pests.
With over 20 hectares of hedges, woods, pine forests, and ponds, the property creates an ecosystem favorable to the flourishing of fauna and flora, thus contributing to the balance of natural habitats.
From October to April, Château Plain Point welcomes a flock of 250 sheep.
This grazing plays a crucial role :
it helps to keep the grass under control while enriching the soil. This natural fertilization promotes the growth of nitrogen-rich legumes, which are essential for the health of the vine. Moreover, this practice helps to reduce the environmental footprint by limiting the use of tractors.
At the origin of 80% of pollination on Earth, bees play a vital role in preserving the biodiversity of the vineyard.
To welcome them gently, beehives have been installed at the entrance of the property. Every year, several varieties of nectar-producing flowers, essential for honey production, are sown to provide them with a flourishing and nourishing environment.
The precision of their work ensures sustainable maintenance of our vineyard, avoiding soil compaction and promoting optimal root growth.
The plough horses actively participate in the vineyard work, taking care of young vines up to the age of 3, as well as parcels requiring special attention.
